SWaP in the infrared world means detectors low in size, weight and power consumption - but that's not easy to achieve in a high-performance device where the image sensor needs to be cooled to cryogenic temperatures. Until recently you had to choose between a sensitive detector or a small one.
Enter the Swedish T2SL. IRnova was the first company to release a commercial T2SL detector back in 2014, and with our groundbreaking advances in the technology, we can now offer a range of small detectors without the traditional drawbacks. The key ingredients are:
• HOT operation: the high operating temperature, up to 140 K in the MWIR spectrum with maintained high performance, is what allows us to make use of small, compact cryocoolers such as RMs1, K588 and SX020. This keeps the overall footprint small, the weight light and the power consumption low.
• Full MWIR spectrum: IRnova's MWIR T2SL doesn't cut at 4.2 µm but collects photons all the way up to the atmospheric window edge at 5.1 µm. This dramatically improves the signal-to-noise ratio, since the upper range of the MWIR spectrum is rich with emitted photons.
• Perfect image quality: The crisp, sharp image astonishes even the most experienced IR experts. IRnova's T2SL structure and advanced manufacturing give an image almost completely free from dead or flickering pixels, and an amazing image contrast corresponding to the actual detector resolution, as there is no cross-talk between pixels.
• Affordable: IRnova's T2SL design and processing allow for a very high yield of fabrication whatever the format of the detector, meaning we can offer not only SWaP, but SWaP-C: detectors low in size, weight, power and cost.
All this translates to what we call high-performance SWaP-C: reducing the size and cost of the detectors, while establishing state-of-the-art performance.
The IRnova SWaP-C products include the following product families:
• Njord, the brand new world-leading HD detector for the ultimate infrared experience in 1280x1024 format
• Oden, delivering stunning image in VGA format
• Hnoss, our latest gas imaging detector detecting VOC gases in VGA format
